March 1st Tax Filing Deadline for Farmers

March 1st Tax Filing Deadline for Farmers

At Welgaard, we are committed to providing accurate, timely, and high-quality services. With that in mind, we want to remind our farmers about the March 1st tax filing deadline.

What You Need to Do

We are advising our farmers to make an annual estimated tax payment by January 15 to prevent penalties. Doing so will move your tax return filing deadline to April 15. Any remaining tax due (or an extension payment, if needed) will be due by April 15.

Why not wait until March 1 to pay?

In recent years, we've encountered recurring delays that have made it difficult to meet the March 1st deadline:

  • Tax legislation changes: Tax software companies often postpone updates to forms due to last-minute tax law changes. With the new tax legislation, the IRS is already warning taxpayers that filing will be delayed.
  • Late Tax Documents: Essential documents like 1099s and K-1s are being issued later each year.

Questions or Need Help Planning?
If you don’t usually do year-end tax planning, it may be time to consider it. Planning before the end of the year can provide tax saving strategies to reduce your overall tax liability and the opportunity to discuss how the new legislation affects your tax situation.
